Alvin Thompson Smith Diaries Transcript
A.T. (Alvin Thompson) Smith was an early Oregon pioneer who participated in the formation of the government of the Oregon Territory, and who also helped to found Pacific University. This collection contains transcripts of his diary, written from 1840 to 1853.
George H. Atkinson Collection
George Henry Atkinson was an early Oregon missionary and educator who founded Pacific University. He was also involved in the creation of the public school system in Oregon. The collection consists of Atkinson's incoming and outgoing correspondence, along with several of his publications.
Tabitha Brown Collection
Tabitha Brown was an Oregon pioneer and a founder of Pacific University. This collection includes several original letters by Tabitha and Clark Brown, copies of her account of travels on the Oregon Trail (known as the "Brimfield Heroine" letter), written documentation of Brown family memories, and other material related to the Brown Family.
Butts Family Collection
Diary of a Sea Voyage to San Francisco and Commonplace Book of an Immigrant to Oregon
This anonymous handwritten volume contains several texts, including a diary of a sea voyage from Boston to San Francisco in 1852, a description of an 1863 trip on the Columbia River, and miscellaneous handwritten recipes, notes and clippings.
Ellis W. Dixon Scrapbook
Ellis Watson Dixon was a pioneer and a clergyman who lived in various locations in Oregon, California and Washington between 1850-1905. His scrapbook includes a handwritten autobiographical sketch, as well as newspaper clippings relating to his activities and family members.
James Gerrish Diaries
James Gerrish was an Oregon pioneer of 1844, and a Methodist circuit preacher who worked in Oregon and Washington in the 1850s-1860s. His diaries, dated 1854-1863, record his daily life travelling and preaching to communities on the frontier.
John Smith Griffin Papers
Harvey Clark Collection
Harvey Clark was an Oregon pioneer of 1840 who helped to found Pacific University, and who owned much of the land where the town of Forest Grove now lies. The collection includes one original letter by Harvey Clark dated 1843; a facsimile and transcription of a 1844 letter; a transcription of his 1837 "memory book," a book of verses and notes written by friends; and typed biographical notes about Harvey Clark.
Henry Hart Spalding Scrapbook
Henry Hart Spalding, the son of missionaries Henry Harmon and Eliza Hart Spalding, was one of the first children born to two white parents in the Oregon Territory. This scrapbook was probably his notebook when he was a high school student in the 1850s; news clippings from the 1860s-1870 are pasted over some earlier text.
